A freak accident leads to a fundraiser for a Northfielder
Community members are invited to help raise much-needed funds for the Raghav Singh family of Northfield, after a freak accident changed their lives literally in an instant. On April 21, 2013, while enjoying a leisurely spring afternoon in the family’s outdoor hot tub with his two children, the hot tub cover fell and landed directly on Raghav Singh’s head, pushing him underwater and breaking his neck, causing instant paralysis. His son, Karsten Singh, a Northfield Middle School 8th grader, was able to pull his father up to safety and then held him up so that he could breathe while his daughter, Hannah Singh, a 6th grader at NMS, ran to get their mother, Kristin Moorhead. The children’s quick thinking and action saved their father’s life.
Raghav was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center and was later transferred to the Courage Center in Golden Valley after one month in the hospital. Raghav is expected to stay at the Courage Center through the end of August.
Now, the family is now facing enormous medical expenses, including the cost of adapting their Northfield home to meet Raghav’s physical needs, and donations are greatly appreciated. Knowing that his family is making ends meet will greatly aid in Raghav’s recovery.
