You can add your name to the list of those telling Congress what they think about the disposal of historic buildings by the United States Postal Service. The public is invited to submit comments to the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) for their report to Congress on the Post Office’s disposal of historic facilities. Congress tasked the ACHP in the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2014 to develop a report on appropriate steps to ensure the (USPS) complies with the provisions of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. The Northfield Post Office isn’t the only historic building they are trying to unload and the public has expressed concern. Congress has considered legislative action to address concerns over the USPS’s decision making process on the disposal of their historic buildings. Letters regarding the process or lack thereof, in Northfield have already been submitted by the HPC, NDDC and the Northfield Historical Society.
