In an historic move, late this afternoon Mayors Dana Graham and Glenn Switzer gathered with City Administrators Madigan and McCarthy to announce the merging of Northfield and Dundas. Switzer said at first they were negotiating just to Woodley but decided to take the colleges too.
Graham added that Dunfield will have more land.
Apparently there’s a little known clause in the Charter that allows the two cities to merge without input from either council or the citizens. Graham says not this election but next, they will Co-Mayor.
The Mayors and the Council will take turns on a monthly basis. Switzer added that they all agreed Bridgewater Township will not have a seat at the table. The new signs welcoming folks to Dunfield will be placed in a ceremony coming up in 2 weeks. Due to the economic impact of the merge, a town wide tax cut of 13% is expected for the 2015 tax season.
