NDDC delivers Parking recommendations
While some believe downtown parking is limited, others believe there’s not enough of a problem to incur the cost of building a parking lot. The NDDC has been intimately involved in parking issues and were asked by the City Council to help form a subcommittee to investigate options that did NOT include the addition of a new parking lot. Executive Director of the NDDC, Ross Currier, gave a brief summary of the subcommittees recommendations late in the council meeting this week. Mayor Pro-Tem Pownell said 2 of the ideas were increasing enforcement and adding 15 minute signs for pick up and drop off at some areas. Another recommendation was parking striping for customers in front of some locations. The council sent it back to the subcommittee to work with staff o put more detail on the recommendations so that council could vote on them. Currier pointed out 7 recommendations overall that would also include reducing speed and education initiatives. For more information go to northfielddowntownparking.org

Walerius watches the river
While recent rains have raised river levels, they’re still below flood stage, nevertheless, Chief Walerius and his officers are keeping an eye on the Cannon River. Walerius has been in contact with the Rice County Emergency Response personnel, who are watching the rivers in and around Rice County. Everything will depend on the rainfall amounts over the next few days. You can follow river levels and precipitation amounts in the Northfield area, check out the City’s website at ci.northfield.mn.us, click on public works and then GIS. It charts out the river levels over the last month and gives river information south of here.
