The Northfield Arts Guild’s Young People’s Theater workshop celebrates 25 years of summer theater education this month. 70 students will perform original productions July 29th, 30th and 31st. Executive Director Alyssa Herzog-Melby, “After the 5:30PM performance we will have an ice cream social celebration to honor the two founders of YPT in Myrna Johnson and Patsy Dew.” All performances will be held at Arcadia Charter school. Development of City Property in Stoneridge Hills
The Park and Recreation Advisory Board are reviewing the development of the approximately 9 acres of City property located on the north-east corner of the Stoneridge Hills development. The property is about 40% wooded and 60% open. A P&RAB member has proposed developing walking trails on the property. As a first step the P&RAB is requesting the City Council approve a current survey to determine the property boundaries.
While many school districts have Columbus Day off as a holiday, once again Northfield will not. Superintendent Dr. Chris Richardson, “As we have done, we have to officially declare Columbus Day, not a holiday.” The question is asked every year and the answer remains the same. New this year, the Northfield School District will receive additional funding from the State, “That’s going to give us approximately $225,000 more per year that will help us to do both academic and behavioral interventions.” Superintendent Dr. Chris Richardson said that’s very significant for the district.
