Three adults were arrested yesterday in a drug bust by the Faribault Police department.  The Cannon River Drug and Violent offender Task Force executed a search warrant at 2nd Avenue in Faribault.  According to Faribault Police Chief Andy Bohlen this was the result of months of investigation involving narcotics and sales coming and going from the residence at 1230 2nd Ave. NW.  Inside, agents recovered methamphetamine, numerous items used to consume illegal drugs as well as items related to the sale of illegal controlled substances.  According to the Rice County jail list, it would appear a father and son were arrested.  The official criminal complaints have not yet been filed.  Multiple agencies were involved including the Rice County emergency response unit and Social Services as there was a small child in the residence.  Information has been sent to the Rice County attorneys office.  Task Force Commander Dave Dillon commented on the great example of teamwork by all the agencies.  The CRDVOTF is made up of agents from the Faribault and Northfield police departments, the Rice County Sheriff’s department and various local law enforcement entities.

Drugs and Guns found in Owatonna bust

Elsewhere, the drug task force also executed a search warrant at 239 Pearl Street east in Owatonna on Tuesday.  According to a press release from Chief Bohlen and Commander Dave Dillon, after months of investigation involving the sale of narcotics in and around the area.  Agents recovered “measurable” amounts of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, stolen firearms and numerous other items indicative of the sale and possession of narcotics.  Two adults were arrested for controlled substance and gun charges and are currently in the Steele County jail awaiting arraignment.  Again, multiple agents including the Owatonna police and the South Central Drug Investigation Unit.

Recognizing those behind the street cops

It happens to be National Correctional officers recognition week.  Rice County Sheriff Troy Dunn said there are 20 correctional officers at the Rice County jail plus those at the State Prison in Faribault that they want to recognize for the “great work they do”.  He said it’s a non glamorous job taking care of the prisoners.  They don’t often get the recognition they deserve.  Next week is National Law Enforcement Memorial week recognizing all those who were killed in the line of duty.  We’ll have more on that later.

Parking won’t be a problem at Police facility

There was but one item on the Northfield City Council regular agenda this week.  It was a change order for the, officially called, “Enterprise Park street reclamation project” which is Riverview Drive near the police facility.  The request was to add sidewalk in the area and 12 parking spaces for the police facility.  Police Chief Monte Nelson that after the very first meeting they held in the new facility they immediately knew there was a problem.  They thought there would be before it was built, however, they took out that parking lot at the time of building due to cost overruns.  But Nelson says any overflow parking winds up on Riverview Drive which is dangerous.  Waterford Oil is right across the street which is not very wide and there are a lot of trucks in the area.  The 12 additional parking spaces will cost about $28,000 while the sidewalk will cost about $54,000.  Mayor Pro Tem DeLong said he thought the sidewalk was unnecessary saying it was an additional expense to the City for plowing and there aren’t many walkers to the street shop.  The vote was 4 to 2 to add both the sidewalk and parking spaces.  For more information check the City’s website and click on City Council agenda for May 5th.
