Butler cans Cow Talks
In an about face Norman Butler has cancelled Cow Talks at the Contented Cow with known conspiracy theorist James Fetzer. He posted on the Northfield News website this morning after 9 o’clock that “Cow Talks are hereby canceled. Our livelihood is threatened. Our Staff is harassed. Our regulars worried.” In a phone conversation he told me that he had nothing more to add.
Dundas may dig in it’s heels when it comes to Railroad spur
The Union Pacific Railroad will be adding a spur in, mostly, Bridgewater Township, however there’s a short distance that affects Dundas and the possible closing of 118th street. Both the City and the Township are concerned. Dundas says 118th street is part of their Comprehensive Plan as an arterial crossing as the City grows. City Administrator John McCarthy says that railroad officials will meet with them next Monday and hopefully they’ll receive more information on the potential closing. 118th street is about 1 mile south of CR 1. Since the spur is a bypass spur, McCarthy says the railroad’s plan would be to, for example, park a northbound train for a few hours to let southbound trains by or visa versa. A train could, potentially, sit there for several hours. The spur will run from approximately Cabot Avenue to CR 8. That’s a little over 2 miles.
EDA elects 2015 officers
The EDA met last week and elected officers for 2015. New member Rick Jackson was elected President, Fred Rogers was re-elected as Vice President, Todd Bornhauser will remain Treasurer and members David Ludescher and Dale Gehring will be co-liaisons to the NEC. They also discussed liaisons to other groups, specifically the NDDC. While some questioned the longevity of the organization, they still chose to have Jack Hoschouer act as liaison. Community Planning and Development Director Chris Heineman will be liaison to the Planning Commission. Bornhauser and Rogers will continue as a subcommittee to review loan requests.
St. Dominic celebrates Catholic Schools week
St. Dominic School Principal Vicki Marvin stopped by KYMN studios to talk about Catholic Schools Week. There are lots of fun activities going on all week. Their open house is Thursday night from 4 to 7pm. They invite the public to check out their school and the programs. Pajama Day is Friday, a tradition for Catholic Schools week. Marvin says another big event is Saints Night Out on February 21st. It’s their biggest fundraiser of the year. Marvin says it’s a great community event with a live and silent auction. Marvin added that Wednesday mornings are their Dominic Drive-thru where they serve apple cider or hot chocolate to parents dropping off their kids.
