Weiers will handle search for Public Works Director
Council approved the selection of Gary Weiers from David Drown and Associates to search for a Public Works Director. They had 3 bids with Weiers coming in the least expensive at $12,000. He assisted in the search for a new City Administrator. No timeline has been set. Assistant Brian Erickson is currently standing in for Joe Stapf who retired early to care for his ailing wife.
Dept. of Health could close Well #2
Public Works interim director Brian Erickson said 4 of the 5 wells in Northfield are in production right now but that is set to change as the oldest well is #2 and it’s called a “mixed” aquifer in that it draws from 2 different ones. Erickson said that staff has expressed some concerns that the Dept. of Health could quickly close due. Because it’s a shallow aquifer, there’s potential for contamination as well as cross contamination of the Jordan with water from Prairie DuChen. Bolten and Menk performed a well siting study and recommend placing Well #6 near the Spring Creek soccer field. It is the best and least expensive. Council was asked to move this forward and get the well built. They prefer to build over the winter when the ground is frozen for this type of project. Council was interested in making sure the well would be aesthetically pleasing. It was approved unanimously. The well will not be put into production right away.
