news radioDundas sets 3% preliminary levy

The Dundas City Council met last night to discuss their capital improvement plan and set their preliminary levy for 2015.  City Administrator John McCarthy said the Council approved a 3% levy although they considered a 2% levy.  But there may be some changes in the valuation of certain properties so they felt they should hedge their bets for the moment.  That number can always come down.  McCarthy’s interview is online at kymnradio.net.

Nfld Chief says good weather brought good behavior for DJJD

By all accounts this year’s Defeat of Jesse James Days Celebration was a success.  Including the perspective of the Northfield police department.  Good weather brought good behavior, for the most part.  Police Chief Monte Nelson says dry temperate weather equals good behavior.  Nelson said Friday night was pretty quiet.  Saturday night was certainly busier but still, relatively few problems.  A minor scuffle and a couple of related medicals that had to do with overindulging.  The department had a TZD grant for increased dui enforcement.  Nelson said they had 5 dui’s but that was not more than normal with the size event DJJD is. He’ll have more information on the number of people who used a Smart Ride home within a week or so.  During the parade yesterday, one child was lost but by the time they had the information to distribute, the little girl was found.  Nelson added that every year a couple of kids get lost for a little while and there are a couple of minor thefts.  There were a few minor traffic accidents as well but nothing out of the ordinary and nothing real serious.

Reserves an integral part of the Celebration

Nelson says the 27 reserves were an integral part of DJJD.  He said they owed the Reserves a big thank you as they were everywhere.  They also had help from three young men from the State Patrol Explorer Post, reserves from Dakota County as well as the Allina Communications truck.  Sgt. Scott Johnson was the contact for the Committee this year.  Nelson said Scott worked hard to get the logistics done and parking signs up.  Nelson said there’s a sigh of relief after it’s all done and then they look forward to next year!

Council work session

The Northfield City Council meets for a work session at 7 this evening.  They’ll discuss tobacco and paraphernalia ordinances and hear an update on Rice County drug court.  They’ll also be receiving budget reports from several different City departments.  The meeting will be streamed live online at kymnradio.net.
