Man with pot pursued by police now facing felony
Another high speed chase in Faribault leads to multiple charges for a Lonsdale man. On Tuesday 22 year old Joseph Eric Corradini was clocked at 82 mph on Lyndale Avenue which is posted at 45. Faribault patrol activated their lights and took chase. According to the criminal complaint Corradini went through a red light at 30th street, the officer was traveling at 105 mph to keep up. He followed Corradini for over 3.5 miles until he pulled over after turning onto Bagley Avenue and turning off his headlights. The officer told Corradini to show his hands and get out of the vehicle. He yelled that he was trying to get his pregnant girlfriend to the hospital, repeating the story several times. The girlfriend admitted that wasn’t true. Corradini later told police that he knew he was being pursued and that he should’ve pulled over but he had marijuana in the vehicle. He’s charged with fleeing a peace officer which is a felony with up to 3 years in prison. All the other charges are misdemeanors or less. Reckless driving could get Corradini up to 90 days in jail, the other charges for pot possession and paraphernalia are only fines. Bottom line – don’t run.
HRA outlines their 2015 preliminary budget
Community Development Coordinator Michele Merxbauer gave a report on the HRA budget to Council this week. She explained that between the $218,000 they’ll receive from taxes, investments and rental property income the HRA’s 2015 revenue is estimated at $271,479. The HRA isn’t asking for an increase but because property values are going up, they will be getting more dollars on the same rate they have levied for the past 5 years. HRA Chair Dayna Norvold went through the programs that the HRA has been involved in. She told council that “it’s important to know that 30% of Northfield residents earn less than $35,000. She said while we have great non-profits in town and a good relationship with Three Rivers, the City would still not be able to provide programs like street assessment help, neighborhood revitalization and low income housing without the HRA. They are also working with the EDA on ways to create workforce housing. Another initiative is financial literacy. They don’t want to provide “a handout but rather equip people to move themselves forward”. The HRA will hold a workforce summit in November with appropriate entities. Council will be voting on the City tax levy next Tuesday.
Madigan rides into the sunset…
It was a packed open house at City Hall as dozens came to say goodbye and good luck to retiring City Administrator Tim Madigan yesterday. He said he’s really appreciated his time in Northfield. It’s been an exciting challenge. “The most rewarding city he’s worked with” in terms of the people, the projects and issues. Madigan says it’s not the last we’ve seen of him. He’ll be at the coffee shop downtown (drinking tea) and riding his bicycle. He added that Northfield’s “a great community” and he wants to stay connected. He’s also in the Northfield Rotary. As far as retirement goes, he has a couple of trips planned to the Boundary Waters and out East.
