news radioNfld man “just snapped” – races through Faribault

A 44 year old Northfield man is in jail after fleeing a police officer. According to the criminal complaint Kevin Scott Davidson was spotted by a Faribault police officer driving through downtown Faribault at a high rate of speed ignoring stop signs, ignoring the officers flashing lights and finally hit another vehicle in the intersection at 13th street west and 2nd avenue.  As the officer arrested him, he yelled to the occupants of the other vehicle that he was sorry.  They were transported to District One with non life-threatening injuries, Davidson was not hurt.  There was a strong odor of alcohol on his breath.  He told officers that he started drinking at 9:30 Saturday morning and had consumed beer, vodka and smoked marijuana.  Davidson was pulled over just before noon.  He told police that he was just driving to drive away the pain.  He deliberately ignored the stop signs because “it didn’t really matter to him”.   He “just snapped”.  He denied knowing that the officer was behind him.  He suffers from emphysema and was having a crisis.  He cried off and on through the booking process and apologized to officers.  Davidson is facing a felony charge for fleeing as well as criminal vehicular operation of a vehicle while under the influence, reckless driving and dui.  He’s facing up to 3 years in jail if convicted of the most serious charge.  Davidson has several other convictions including theft, burglary, domestic assault, open bottle, speeding and driving after revocation. His next court appearance is September 8th.

Committees formed to iron out ARD details

As Bridgewater and Dundas continue to disagree about their Annexation agreement they formed committees to deal with the most “thorny” issues.  City Administrator John McCarthy says one of those committees will meet tonight(Tuesday)to discuss 115th street.  A small portion is in Dundas but in the ARD it runs from Falk Avenue to CR 20.  The portion that’s in Dundas is very steep.  It serves Bridgewater and they want to make sure it’s maintained.  Another question is the increased traffic on Decker street which is gravel.  It’s concerning to the township and Dundas as a potential safety problem.   Whether to pave Decker is a future question.  Decker becomes Depot when it enters Dundas which was just recently paved.  They also added curb and gutter.

The Public Works/Public safety building for Dundas is coming along.  The building is up, the siding’s not quite done but the windows are being installed and the roof is complete.  Interior framing and insulation is being done.  They hope to have the Police in by mid-October and Public works shortly thereafter.

Nfld council talks budget tonight

The Northfield City Council meets for a work session tonight.  It’s all about money tonight.  They’ll discuss the budget and tax levy, the HRA and EDA budgets and work plans and the Capital Improvement plan.  The other item is to authorize a search for a new Public Works Director and review the operations of that department.  City Administrator Madigan had mentioned hiring a Project Coordinator for Public Works.  The meeting will be streamed live online at kymnradio.net.
