Spring Creek Townhome project progresses
The Spring Creek Townhome project progression continues. The road infrastructure is in, base layer gravel is down, and there are 2nd stories being built. Community Development coordinator Michele Merxbauer reports that she’s received a few notices from the neighborhood expressing their appreciation for how considerate the construction crews have been by cleaning the roads and their site every day. The storm in early July resulted in some minor damage, but the contractors were able to get back on schedule within a few days. You can view pictures of the progression on the City’s website.
Street improvements moving along
This week, Engineering Tech Coordinator, Sean Simonson, says crews are expected to finish up with storm sewer relocations near the Sibley School entrance, and finish the remaining curb and gutter on Maple Street as road improvements continue. Retaining wall crews are expected to continue installations and milling crews should be on-site late this week to perform the 9-1/2” mill and class V gravel base placement on Maple Street. Crews have also been working to get the 6th and 9th street projects completed. Concrete crews will continue working on sidewalk and driveway aprons and the brick paver crosswalks at Division and Sixth should be completed this week. The contractor, BCM, is expecting to open the intersection of Division Street and Sixth Street this Friday.
Motokazieland will go before Rice County Planning Commission
It’s another win in Lee Theis’s continued battle to build Motokazieland in Wells Township. Last week the Rice County Board of Commissioners voted to deny a stay request that would have suspended any progress on Motokazieland’s conditional use permit applications until after a decision from the Minnesota Court of Appeals regarding an Environmental Impact Study for the motor sports park. A couple who live near the project area, Flavia and Lowell Berg are fighting to keep the project from proceeding. Commissioner Dave Miller told the Faribault Daily that “There was not sufficient evidence to merit the request,”. Miller made the motion to deny. The board approved the motion 4-1, with Commissioner Galen Malecha dissenting. Malecha has consistently voiced concerns about quality of life issues for the Wells Township residents who will live near the Motokazieland site at Bagley Avenue and 160th Street West. Theis will appear before the Rice County Planning Commission on Thursday.
