68 new homes approved for Northfield
Last week the Northfield City council approved the Hills of Spring Creek 6th addition after it passed through the Planning Commission. Mayor Graham said the plat provides for 68 single family homes. The 30 acre site is on the southeast side of Northfield by Spring Creek Drive and Jefferson Parkway. The plat includes the extension of 3 public roads. Erie, Michigan and Ontario Drive, and the creation of Huron Drive. Graham said we need more housing and this be a nice addition for Northfield. Tomorrow night at their work session, Council will discuss the option of having the City Council act as the Economic Development Authority Board. He suggested this as a way to streamline the City’s economic development process and provide more accountability by elected officials. Members of the EDA are invited to attend.
McCarthy does not recommend on-road bicycle route for Mill Towns Trail
Dundas City Administrator John McCarthy states in his bi-weekly report that the Mill Towns State Trail Joint Powers Board has been discussing the designation of an on road route between Dundas and Faribault. According to information received by the Board, the bicycle community supports an on road route as an alternative to the trail. With designation would come signage along the route. The Trail JPA board also supports the on-road alternative route. While Rice County has indicated they’re considering bicycle safety including proper shoulders when upgrading roads, there are concerns regarding designating routes where shoulders may not be adequate. After consulting with Rice County staff, McCarthy is not recommending approval of an on road alternative to the trail tonight at their Dundas council meeting. He’ll be in studio tomorrow morning at 8:40.
Like it or not, medical marijuana legislation likely to hit the floor
This is the final week of the Minnesota legislative session and they still have the bonding bill to wrap up. House District 20b representative David Bly said one bill that did not think they would be dealing with is Medical Marijuana but it’s obvious that something will be done this session. The House and Senate have 2 distinctly different versions. The Governor will likely sign the House version of the bill which Bly describes as more law enforcement and the medical community friendly. That was the key for Dayton that neither of those groups oppose the bill. The people who’ve pushed hard for medical marijuana prefer the Senate version which is more consumer friendly.
