AT&T disrupts communications
AT&T rented space on Dundas’s east water tower in Bridgewater Heights. Recently they were performing some upgrades to 4g service, installing new antennas. While up there they apparently moved antennas owned by Northfield WiFi and the City of Dundas. City Administrator John McCarthy says they’re directional antennas and they disrupted communications. The Dundas building inspector shut down AT&T’s operation. McCarthy says the City believes they told AT&T that they couldn’t move other equipment but they “apparently ignored protocol”. Dundas is hoping to get the issue resolved soon. Northfield WiFi sent someone out to fix theirs, the City of Dundas is not yet up to full capacity. The bills for fixing the issue will be directed to AT&T.
The iPads are here!
The iPads have arrived. Northfield School Superintendent Dr. Chris Richardson says now they’re working through final details for delivery of the ipads to students in middle and high school. The School Board this week reviewed the iPad loan agreement which is about 7 pages long. A lot of it is thinking through issues parents/teachers/students may have and offering tips. Little hints like “don’t let you child take it to bed with them” and “recharge it nightly in the living room or kitchen” are included in the agreement which must be signed by parents and students before the device can be taken home. The roll out will occur in mid-August. Richardson says they’ll have multiple sessions to accommodate schedules. It will be about a 2 ½ hour session where they’ll get their ipad, put together the case, load it with their software programs including a school management system. Students will get an initial how-to on the basics of the iPad. Richardson says they’ve taken information from surrounding schools to put together their program. Lakeville just recently reported seeing favorable results in their first year of iPad technology.
