Another Northfield icon passes away
Maggie Lee, a Northfield icon, has passed away. Close family friend and former co-worker, Linda Wasner, reported that she passed away from complications of a stroke she suffered a year ago. She then moved to 3 Links. Wasner said she passed peacefully yesterday at Reflections. Both her and Char Bezanson were with her singing her favorite song “Jesus Loves Me” when she took her last breath. Wasner says of Maggie “everyone she met she just treated like a dear friend… she was just like that”. Maggie Lee gives in death as well as life by donating her body to Mayo Clinic. Wasner said they are putting together a memorial but it likely won’t be for a couple of weeks. Will Healy will be officiating. No public input at public hearings
The Dundas City Council met last night. They held 2 public hearings on bond issuances tonight. One for street improvements related to Depot street and the other for Capital Improvements related to the Public Works and police facility. City Administrator John McCarthysaid it gives the public a chance to chime in with their thoughts. McCarthy says there was no input from the public last night. The public has 30 days to respond. During that time they could get a petition for a reverse referendum, however, McCarthy sees that as unlikely.
Northfield Council takes a tour
The Northfield City Council will be meeting for a city tour at 6 tonight. They’ll review projects and issues throughout the Community with the Leadership Team. Then, around 8pm, they’ll meet in City Hall chambers for a work session. There are only 2 items on their agenda. A meeting with the Library Board and the new Director Teresa Jensen and then members of the Parks and Recreation Board. The meeting will be streamed live online at kymnradio.net.
Beat the heat with a movie
You can beat the heat tonight at the Weitz Center for Creativity as they begin their 2nd annual Film Festival. The Cannon Valley Elder Collegium and Carleton College are again sponsoring the Festival. This year the four movies will feature Alfred Hitchcock classics. Tonight’s movie is Vertigo with James Stewart and Kim Novak. Upcoming shows are Shadow of a Doubt, North by Northwest, and Psycho. The films will be screened free each Tuesday night at 7:30 through July. Each movie will be followed the morning after by a seminar led by faculty experts, from 9:30-11:30 AM, also at the Weitz Center. You can register at the Northfield Senior Center, and $25 covers all four movies. The first seminar will be led by Carol Donelan, Chair of Cinema and Media Studies, Carleton.
