There was another bump in the road to a Fire JPA yesterday. Mayor Graham announced at the end of last night’s meeting that Rural’s attorney called to say that they have another change to the agreement. He commented that “twice we all agreed and now they want to change it again at the last minute”. Graham says it all has to do with the lease agreement. Rural Fire’s Administrator and part of the group negotiating the JPA, Jerry Anderson, said on the Wayne Eddy Affair this morning, that Fire doesn’t favor a sunset. He added that he believes their attorney will have some language change to the City of Northfield this afternoon. Councilor DeLong took umbrage with City Administrator Madigan after he said “I’ve never seen anyone back out of their own agreement like this…” [for complete quotes from all parties listen to the audio on my top news stories with audio]
DeLong said “I imagine if I talked to Rural, which I haven’t, or with Jerry, which I haven’t, they would say they’re the reasonable ones…”.
It got rather heated for a time after that. This morning Mayor Graham said that “we’re done making changes…”
Madigan said in a phone call this morning that the latest lease agreement of the current facility at a yearly cost of $20,000 with a review after 10 years will be on Council’s agenda April 1st.
