MOM sends Twenty Five on their way

Around Halloween KYMN heard MOM Brands employees had been let go.  Repeated phone calls to Director of Communications, Linda Fisher, went unanswered and laid off employees were told not to speak with the media.  Yesterday afternoon, Fisher, released a statement which reads “The reduction in salaried positions we announced on October 11 is now complete, and as a result, 100 positions across the organization have been eliminated, including 25 at our facility in Northfield.” “These were very tough decisions to make, but were necessary to ensure that we are properly structured to continue to deliver on our strategy of keeping our prices low and saving families money. We appreciate the many contributions of each employee that has been affected by this reduction.”  In August Senator Amy Klobuchar visited the cereal maker here.  She said she was impressed by how happy the employees were and believes the company is headed for further growth on the international stage.  Many of the employees have been there for over 30 years.

Time to put the Tiger to bed

Mayor Graham came in to discuss the council meeting and work session.  He also addressed the recent bids for the Tiger Trail project.  The lowest of which is $3.2 million.  That’s over $828,000 more than the previously approved budget.  He says he was not in favor of the last cost – it’s time to put this to bed.  He says unless Mn Dot’s willing to give the City the rest of the money, it’s not a project we should go ahead with.  During open comment period, Don McGee handed over a list of several questions and concerns to the City Clerk for Council to look over.  He says the design, which has a 6 ½% grade, calls into question safety of walkers.  Bicyclists can travel at 20 mph on the trail.  He continued by questioning the City’s liability if it becomes a nuisance with kids challenging each other to see who can do the 180 degree turn the fastest.  This item will be voted on at their November 19th meeting.
