The City received 4 bids on the Tiger Trail project. The projected cost when last council addressed the trail was $2.4 million. The lowest bid from S.M. Hentges and Sons, out of Jordan, came in at nearly $3.2 million. That number includes engineering and right of way costs and railroad agreements. That’s over $828,000 more than council last agreed on. The highest bid came in at nearly $3.5 million without the additional engineering costs. The original TIGER grant for the trail was $1 million with a $500,000 match from the City. As the costs continued to escalate council voted on additional dollars. MN Dot managed to find an additional $600,000 and a 4 to 3 vote of the council secured another $273,000 from the City bringing the cost up to $2.4 million. But no one bid on the job the first time out, so Council voted to rebid the job. Council has already spent $280,000 in design and acquiring land. The question now is who on the council will have reached their threshold. It’s on their November 19th agenda.
