Rosemount man indicted for 1st degree murder

A Rosemount man was indicted by a Dakota County Grand Jury yesterday afternoon for 1st degree murder.  31 year old Anthony Lee Nelson was indicted on 1st degree premeditated murder and Intentional 2nd degree murder in connection with the shooting death of 23 year old Palagor Obang Jobi of Savage outside a Burnsville bar on September 22nd.  Nelson is also a suspect in the death of former girlfriend 20 year old Anarae Schunk who went missing the same night of the shooting.   Her body was found in a ditch in rural Rice County 3 weeks ago.  Nelson will make his first court appearance on these charges this morning.  He remains in the Dakota County jail.  The judge set bail at $2million.

Northfield felon suspect in string of thefts

A convicted felon from Northfield is back in jail.  20 year old Schuyler Keaton Brook was arrested Wednesday for probation violation in connection with his conviction for aiding and abetting a drive-by shooting 2 years ago.  When arrested, Brook was carrying an unloaded .22 caliber pistol in his jacket pocket.  Bullets were found in another pocket as well as drug paraphernalia in the form of an orange capped syringe.  Brook could spend, at a minimum, 5 years in jail if convicted.  He’s currently being held in the Rice County jail.  Brook is a suspect in the string of thefts from cars last weekend.   Interim Police Chief Chuck Walerius said in a phone conversation that they are also looking into further criminal activity.

HRA/EDA lauded for new programs

Community Development Director, Chris Heineman and Coordinator, Michele Merxbauer, tag teamed presenting budgets for the EDA and HRA to council this week.  Mayor Graham commended the HRA for all the work they do and the EDA for stepping up and coming up with other development ideas.  He cited the road expansions for Enterprise Park that they brought to council earlier this month.  The EDA has offered a micro grant program for some time.  It has not always been utilized so the unused dollars have gone into the Reserve fund.  Heineman said that rather than scrap the program, they’ll continue to use funds from the Reserve.  Merxbauer and Heineman also talked about the Boards initiatives and accomplishments including the implementation of a city-wide revolving loan program through the EDA, the HRA’s “Home Matters 2.0” program for the revitalization of the Veterans Park neighborhood and the Spring Creek Townhome project which has been a huge success, according to Merxbauer.
