Police Chief Monte Nelson is warning food vendors and local businesses that $20 bills were passed last night at some of the food vendors on Bridge Square during Townie Night at DJJD. Police took calls from food vendors last night. Nelson explains that it’s pretty easy to tell that these bills in particular don’t have watermarks or holograms. He said to check the texture of the bills as well. There are only 2 different serial numbers on these bills. I will list those as soon as I receive them from Chief Nelson.
The following serial numbers have been associated with the fake currency:
IL 17629115E
JC 02738184D
GB 83703904B
JB 11841020B
IF 95534474D
======================================================================
If you find any of the above serial numbers or believe you have accepted counterfeit currency, please contact:

If you believe you just received the counterfeit money, CALL 911.
Crossing Hwy 3
The safe crossing of Hwy 3 is back on council radar as MnDot will be overlaying a stretch of the highway from the Rice/Dakota county line to the north side of the bridge just past Greenvale Avenue. This week council discussed crossings at Fremouw and Greenvale. The plan right now is to narrow the road southbound to one lane near Dairy Queen and have a median with flashing lights. Mayor Graham said that would slow the traffic down and they would add another crossing on the north side of Greenvale Avenue. The southbound side would have a bike lane as well. The design cost is estimated at $100,000 for each crossing. MnDot will pay for the overlay of the highway 3. The money would come from leftover Tiger Trail fund. They would also roll the Hwy 3 and 3rd street crossing into it as they believe they’ll get a better deal if they can manage all 3 crossings at once. (The hwy 3 and 3rd crossing was scrapped for this year when bids came in well above estimated cost) This will come back to council for approval within the next month or so.
The Depot move takes another methodical step forward
The Save the Northfield Depot group plans on moving the Depot before the snow flies. The process has been slow but methodical with the number of other entities involved. Organizer Alice Thomas said her disappointment, however, has been that the Railroad didn’t agree to remove the roofless building before the Save the Depot group can move the Depot. The railroad will remove it at some point. The Depot required 2 variances which were approved by the zoning board of appeals last night. The location they’ve selected will maintain the historical integrity of the Depot as it will be in the same block as the other 4 previous depots. It will be parallel to the tracks. The passenger rail service will play a role in the scenario as officials have stated that the plan for the Northfield Depot is ideal due to it’s location. The parking is also more than adequate for passenger use as opposed to commuter rail. Thomas says they’ve gone through all the numerous channels but there are still details such as working with the building inspector for permits. Quotes from the contractor are expected any day now. They know some of the costs will have changed both up and down. The Depot group does continue to fundraise as more costs are expected to finish it. They’ll have a car in the DJJD Parade with children and a sign that reads “Save depot for future generations”. Fundraising efforts continue. We’ll have more on special events coming as the time approaches. Go to northfielddepot.org
If Townie night is any indication of attendance for the rest of Defeat of Jesse James Days, then Northfield’s going to be VERY busy. Keep in mind parking will be at a premium. If you can walk, do so, it’ll save you frustration! Also, remember the Smart Ride program. You can get a $6 ride anywhere in Northfield and Dundas. Call 645-4447. For all the events go to djjd.org.
