news radioNfld. School District and Teachers reach tentative agreement

Northfield public schools and the Northfield Education Association reached a tentative agreement for a 2 year contract governing the 2015/16 and 2016/17 school years.   The agreement calls for a 3% base salary increase each year, a 6 month freeze on step increments.  Teachers eligible in September of this year will see the raise in March of 2016.  The District will maintain their current contribution towards health insurance.  The School Board is set to vote on it at tonight’s meeting and the NEA membership will vote September 3rd.  According to a release from Superintendent Dr. Chris Richardson, this is the third lowest increase in 9 cycles or 18 years.  Richardson will be in studio tomorrow morning at 7:20 with a recap of the entire Board meeting.

NAFRS Joint Powers approves 2016 budget

The NAFRS joint powers board met last week.  Mayor Graham said they heard a great presentation from Andrew Tussing regarding their charitable gambling.   The Relief Association operates pull tabs at 3 locations in Dundas, Randolph and Northfield.  20% goes to the bars and 10% to the host city, however Northfield gives it back to the Association.  They distribute 30% of net revenues to the Rescue Service. In 2014 this amounted to about $40,000.   At the end of the year they must hold a zero balance to remain qualified by the State.  While the new Joint Powers Board continues to work out their growing pains, Graham said said he feels confident they can reach agreements on policies and procedures including the Standard Operating Guidelines.  The Board also approved their 2016 operating budget of $525,000 and $550,000 to replace their main fire engine next year.  A request for approval now goes to the Cities of Northfield and Dundas.

Lightening strikes KYMN transmitter

The KYMN transmitter in Waterford Township was struck by lightening during Saturday’s storms blowing out several components in the audio system and took us off the air until Sunday afternoon.  We are temporarily bypassing some of the audio processing so you may hear some differences in volume levels and sound.  We are working to get fully operational within the next few days.  Special thanks to engineer Tim Valley who got us up and running.  You can always listen to us online at kymnradio.net just click on the Tune In button or download our app on your mobile device and listen anywhere.

Underdahl talks about Hospital branding

Northfield Hospital and Clinics is looking to solve a problem.  They have a number of names and are struggling with a branding identity.  President and CEO Steve Underdahl mentioned all the various names and sub brands.  The connection is hard to catch for those inside and outside the community.  He added that there’s no cogent branding.  They’ve been working on market research that would retain some of the history but give some branding cogency.  Underdahl says they don’t have a particular suggestion right now but they’re actively working with experts to figure it out.
