news radio$1 million bail set for Nisbit

Judge Cajacob set bail at $1 million.  In a courtroom filled with law enforcement and family members of the accused, including his wife and mother, 39 year old Jason Nisbit of Faribault was arraigned in Rice County Court yesterday afternoon and formally charged with 2nd degree murder in connection with the death of Chelsea Martinez.  According to the criminal complaint, Nisbit met 26 year old Martinez from Ohio at a local motel on July 31st to discuss suicide.  They arranged to meet again the next morning. Checking out of the motel, they drove separately to Shager Park.  Leaving the vehicles they walked across Hwy 60 into a wooded area familiar with Nisbit.  The complaint states that he chose the site because there was water available in case he needed to wash anything off.   Nisbit had a backpack with paracord and a 10 inch knife.  He tied Martinez’s hands and feet with the paracord, started to strangle her until she passed out and then stood behind her and slit her throat.   After killing her, the complaint says he then dragged her body to a culvert and partially covered her with dirt.  A missing person alert was issued by the Rice County Sheriff’s office on Martinez when her vehicle was found at Shager Park on August 3rd.  Subsequent contact with law enforcement in Ohio led locals to Nisbit who had met Martinez through a social networking website involving an interest in vampires.  Law enforcement learned that Nisbit was not home between 1-6 p.m. on Aug. 1. He initially told officers he was fishing at Shager Park, where he lost his glasses but upon further questioning he admitted to killing Martinez and later led them to
